What does a toner do?
If there’s one question we get asked A LOT it’s what *actually* is a toner + why would I need to incorporate a toner into my routine? We’re going to give you the ultimate glow down so you’re armed with ALL the toner knowledge.
What is a toner + what does it do?
A toner is BASICALLY a liquid moisturiser, it helps to replenish + restore the surface of your skin after you have cleansed. Toners *should* be full of incredible skincare ingredients, that help to keep your skin happy + healthy. When consistently used as part of your routine, toners can help with keeping pores free from debris, improving their appearance, keeping skin hydrated + rebalancing PH levels.
What step in routine should I use a toner + how often?
You should be looking to use a toner AFTER you cleanse + exfoliate but before using serums + moisturisers. Try to use toner every day, dependent on the ingredients, to see maximum benefits. You don’t need to wash your toner off.
What is the best toner for me?
Depending on your skin needs, you will want to pick a toner that is suitable for your skin type + goals. Whether that’s for hydrating, clarifying, calming or keeping skin soothed.
Toner for oily skin
If your skin is on the oily side, we recommend using a BHA based toner. BHA’s act as exfoliants to remove dead skin cells, unlike AHA’s they are oil soluble, so work on the skin surface AND get deep into pores. BHA’s can also improve skin texture + are considered helpful for treating acne. Salicylic acid is the most common type of BHA. You can find this ingredient in our Purify and Brighten toning pads, which have been specifically formulated to brighten, renew and resurface the skin, while balancing oil production.
Hydrating toner
If keeping your skin dewy, plump + hydrated sounds AMAZING then you want to be looking at a toner with hydrating ingredients in. The Nourish and Hydrate toner is formulated with hyaluronic acid, which is a MOISTURE MAGNET. Hyaluronic acid can hold one thousand times it’s weight in water and attracts moisture from the surroundings to hydrate the skin. The Nourish and Hydrate toner is safe to use everyday + will help skin stay hydrated softened + refreshed.
Exfoliating Toner
If you’re wanting to get unbeatably glowy skin, using an aha toner will be perfect for you. AHA’s are water soluble so work on your skins surface. They exfoliate the skin by helping dissolve the bonds that hold dead skin cells together, making room for the new ones, which are much brighter, giving you a healthy glow! The removal of dead skin cells can help keep pores unclogged, reducing the chance of breakouts. The Glow Giver toning pads are formulated with AHA’s glycolic acid + lactic acid. They work to chemically exfoliates skin for a fresh, dewy radiance. Stimulating collagen production, which helps keep skin plump & young!
Toner for sensitive skin
Sensitive + irritable skin can be caused by a plethora of different factors, from damaged moisture barriers to skin conditions such as eczema. If you suffer from skin sensitivity, using ingredients that help to calm + soothe the skin will help keep it feeling comfortable. Jojoba extract has a waxy texture which helps it to form a protective barrier on your skin, locking in moisture, but don’t let this scare you off, it is non-comedogenic, meaning it won't clog pores. Hemp seed oil is another great ingredient associated with easing sensitive skin, rich in linoleic acid (omega-6), a fatty acid that reinforces the skin's barrier, hemp seed oil can help protect and strengthen your skin moisture barrier + reduce areas of weakness, which can lead to skin sensitivity. The Calm and Soothe toner essence is formulated with a blend of both hemp seed oil + jojoba extract, as well as white willow bark to gently tackle excess oil + aloe vera to soften. This hybrid toner essence puts botanical goodness back into the skin, leaving it calmed, comfortable & perfectly prepped for everything that follows.
