If you’ve landed on this blog it’s likely you’re suffering with skin pigmentation, specifically on your face and you’re whether you’re dealing with dark spots that won’t quit or an uneven tone, we’ve got you covered. In this blog we’ll help you discover what causes your pigmentation and how’s best to get rid of it.
Facial pigmentation may be darker spots, acne scarring, or skin discoloration.
There are 4 main reasons your skin might be dishing out more pigment than you asked for:
1. Extended sun exposure as your skin will end up overproducing melanin (the pigment that adds colour to the skin, the same one that helps you get that sun-kissed look)
2. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation can also be known as the dark marks that hang around long after your breakout.
3, Hormones (yes, this is normal in everyone) it especially occurs when on certain medication and during young-adulthood.
4. Skin trauma, yes we’re referring to that time you picked that breakout.
Treating your face always depends on what the cause is, you may want to take a look at the causes above if you think this relates to you.
Our glow hub team have been putting together some ideas and routines to help you treat your skin.
There are many skincare products that contain Vitamin C so it can be difficult to decide which one to use. We recommend pairing it with tranexamic acid. Glow Hub’s Scar Slayer facial serum is specifically formulated to help with your acne scarring, dark spots and pigmentation. With Vitamin C and tranexamic acid (scarring slayers) to help to brighten your skin and maintain your skin’s youthful glow.
We know that it’s summer and you don’t want to be worrying about protecting your skin and stressing about where your sun cream is. However, making sure you properly protect your skin and limiting your UV exposure is the most reliable and basic way to lessen your chances of skin pigmentation, and reduce your pre-existing pigmentation. This means both applying a good amount of SPF and balancing out your tanning time and your indoor time. We recommend using our Defend Yourself SPF30, a lightweight sunscreen which leaves you with no white cast and a dewy glow.
We know it’s tempting to pick those spots as soon as they appear, but did you know that is one of the worst things you can do for your skin! If you’ve ever squeezed or irritated your blemishes, then you may have affected the melanin in your skin and causes the post-spot skin to look lighter or darker. Luckily, our Scar Slayer serum is here to help! With Vitamin C and tranexamic acid, our serum is bound to prevent and lighten areas of pigmentation.
Use a gentle face cleanser and avoid harsh scrubs and chemicals that will affect the skin. Our hydrating and creamy gel cleanser protects and helps even skin tone. Our C Ya Slayer Smoothie Gel Cleanser contains both Vitamin C and tranexamic acid for an all over boost of glow. Not only does it have anti-pigmentation properties but we’ve added a gentle PHA (a natural chemical exfoliator) to buff away dead skin cells & further even skin texture, paired with glycerin and orange water to naturally soothe & smooth, there’s no dryness here, just extra hydration and glowiness.
Preventing skin pigmentation goes hand in hand with how to treat it! Make sure you are mixing Vitamin C rich products like our Scar Slayer serum and our C Ya Slayer cleanser into your daily skincare routine. Better yet, take a look at our entire Vitamin C Slayers range! Don’t let the temptation of picking your spots give in, protect your skin from the sun and avoid using harsh scrubs!
We hope we’ve answered your questions on why skin pigmentation happens and what you can do to prevent and reduce it. If you have any additional question, email us at hello@glowhubeauty.com or drop us a message on socials! We’d be more than happy to help with any extra advice you might need!
